Kurt Greenbaum, the site editor, insists that there are very interesting comments and a good discussion on race at the site. This is hogwash. Mostly the site’s stories have allowed comments that routinely are sexist, racist, and homophobic and often those comments show up at the bottom of the story which is incredibly hurtful to those who are reading and one of the insulted. The forums certainly aren’t much better. Some of the blogs do better as they are moderated more closely, but overall the site has become a repository for hate. More importantly, the commenting doesn’t result in good discussion–it results in garbage being spewed into the public discussion.
The question then, is why do the Post-Dispatch’s editors allow their institution to continue to be used like this.

What happen yesterday with the firing of Sly Brown will go down in the history of racial hatred of the Post Dispatch, well some will think that. My hates off to the post for waking up and eliminating the most racist columnist in the history of the Post. I only hope that the new owners have plenty of money to defend themselves in the major racial law suit that will be coming. Mr. “The gov is killing me” does not know much about critical thinking and keeps trying to shift the burden of proof onto someone else. Very interesting move but fallacious. There is nothing wrong with asking for a claim to be supported by examples or evidence. Today I read an article in which Castro accuses Brown of racism towards Obama; however, he alludes to no specific instance that would substantiate his claim. Mr. “The gov is killing me” seems to be adopting a similar approach and seems to think that he transcends the requirements of logic and sound argumentation. In fact, he has begun to sound desperate because he has been cornered; so he’s hurling insults and accusations in hopes of sparing himself the task of honestly addressing the objections raised against him. The passage quoted from him clearly demonstrates that he is a racist, no question about it!

There’s nothing in that statement that is racist. You think because it affects Blacks that it is. That’s not true, no matter how you or any person wants to twist it. It’s a solution to a problem that affects this entire society. We have spent billions to educate blacks and they as a group continue to fail. People such as you hurt them by making excuses for their lack luster performances in education, and I’m being kind using that term. You really need to take a close look at your mental stability, you get really agitated over perceived racism. I suspect in your youth you were con into going snip hunting and still believe that they’re out there. This could be the only reason you continue to look for racism under every rock in the road.
